Disaster drill to take place Thursday
The University of Mount Union and Alliance Community Hospital, in conjunction with the Alliance Fire Department and Alliance Police Department, will conduct a disaster drill between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sept. 15.
Area residents shouldn't be alarmed if they see emergency vehicles at the University of Mount Union, near the area of Alliance Community Hospital or beneath the Martin Luther King viaduct in the 700 block of East Main Street during the drill.
The purpose of the exercise is to practice the efficiency of emergency medical, criminal and evacuation procedures in the unfortunate event of a community-wide disaster. It will also give participants the opportunity to test their emergency procedures.
Additionally, the drill will incorporate the assistance of several other regional and county emergency responders and disaster management specialists, including the Alliance Emergency Management Agency, Alliance Police Department Special Response Team, Alliance Health Department, Stark County Hazmat Team, Stark County Local Emergency Planning Committee, Stark County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Stark Summit Ambulance Service.
