Alliance Community Hospital Tops Consumer Guide
<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Alliance CommunityHospital has received three ABOVE AVERAGE* ratings for excellent clinical care, according to the 2008 Consumer Guide to OhioHospital Quality. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
In the most recent publication of the guide, which is compiled annually by the Canton-based Employers Health Coalition of Ohio, Inc. and supported by data gathered by WebMD Quality Services, ACH is listed as Above Average in: 1) Orthopedic Surgery - Hip Replacement, 2) Orthopedic Surgery – Knee Replacement, and 3) Pulmonary Disease – Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Ohio hospitals are rated based on comparative statewide performance and the two quality indicators used as criterion are: mortality (deaths occurring in the hospital) and major complications (problems such as blood clots and infections).
The rating system, which offered an allocation of “stars†in the past, was changed this year to include only ABOVE AVERAGE, AVERAGE, and BELOW AVERAGE categories. *ABOVE AVERAGE classification is now the highest possible ranking for this report. WebMD builds databases that hospitals use for internal analysis and quality improvement. These databases are created through the most current Medicare and Medicaid billing information available (2005 and 2006).
“We couldn't be happier about this notification from the Employers Health Coalition of Ohio, Inc. It confirms what we've long known in-house; Alliance Community is a hometown hospital offering exceptional care at the leading Planetree site in the state. Compassionate, caring colleagues truly make this a very special place,†said Stan Jonas, FACHE, and Chief Executive Officer of ACH.
ACH Chief Operating Officer Kerry Swanson agreed that the report validates Alliance Community's clinical excellence.
“Our vision is to be the premier CommunityHospital in the state of Ohio in customer service and quality. This report confirms the hard work and dedication of our colleagues and our Medical staff in achieving that vision,†she said.
The 2008 Consumer Guide to OhioHospital Quality is compiled for consumers, so that they can consider principles such as clinical quality and cost-effectiveness when making healthcare decisions.
“We are fully committed to helping our patients become more informed consumers because we know that the more data they have, the more they will realize what high clinical quality care Alliance Community provides – and at what great community benefit, financially speaking,†said Jonas.
