January 28, 2009

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Alliance CommunityHospital will host its monthly “Ventures in Volunteering†orientation program for incoming volunteers on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in the 1-A conference room.  The program will begin at 1 p.m. and last until approximately 4:30 p.m.  This orientation is structured to answer the many questions potential volunteers may have.  Participants also learn more about the Planetree concept of care.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

“With the holidays behind us, and unemployment numbers growing, many individuals are searching for something to fill the long days of winter.  Volunteering is a great option, and at ACH, we have a service area to compliment each volunteer's skills and abilities,† Volunteer Coordinator Marcy Todd said.

Each month a “Ventures in Volunteering†orientation program is held at the hospital to introduce potential volunteers to the mechanics of hospital volunteering.  This is a mandatory program that covers everything from Planetree hospital concepts to the benefits associated with volunteering at ACH.

“Whether our volunteers are baking cookies, discharging patients, offering Soft Touch hand-rub treatments, assisting patrons in the Gift Shop, preparing rooms in the WoundCareCenter, pampering our patients, putting charts together in the Endoscopy unit, or simply holding a patient's hand, they take their commitment very seriously and take great pride in the services they provide,†Todd said.

“They embrace the opportunity to make a positive difference in another's life,†she said.  “Our volunteers consistently go above and beyond when it comes to the services they provide.  We are receiving more requests from our staff for volunteers who are willing to spend time in patient care areas, but we tailor each volunteer's service to their skills and comfort level.â€

Todd listed assisting with financial projects, conducting pet therapy visits, offering pampering services to the patients and providing research information as some of the other ways ACH volunteers serve hospital patients, visitors and colleagues.

“We offer a very diverse volunteer program at ACH and we work with each volunteer's schedule when placing a volunteer in a service area.   With more than 50 service areas to choose from, we are confident that we can provide every volunteer a position they will find both fulfilling and meaningful during hours that will work well for each volunteer,†Todd said.

Please call the Volunteer Department at 330-596-7822 or 330-596-7821 with questions or to make reservations, since reservations for the orientation session are required.  Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
